Notes

Studio recording, 1979-1980. Frank Infante played the main riff on the original studio recording using a borrowed Gretsch Country Gentleman through a Marshall amp. No evidence of pedals or effects used for the riff section; Infante states he usually plugged straight into the amp for Blondie recordings. No evidence of chorus, delay, or modulation on the riff section. Live rigs and later tours used different gear; this data is for the original studio recording only.

Difficulty

The riff requires tight timing, clean chord stabs, and palm muting, but does not involve advanced techniques or fast playing. The challenge is in maintaining the groove and articulation.
