Notes

Studio recording, 1988 (OU812 album). Eddie Van Halen switched from Marshall to Soldano SLO-100 for rhythm/riff tones on OU812, including 'Cabo Wabo'. No evidence of live rig or later EVH/Peavey amps on this studio track. Guitar is the Ernie Ball Music Man EVH Signature with custom DiMarzio humbuckers. Effects are minimal in the riff section; most modulation/delay is reserved for solos.

Difficulty

The riff requires tight palm muting, fast alternate picking, and dynamic control to achieve the signature Van Halen punch and articulation. Wide stretches and syncopated chord stabs add to the technical challenge.
