Effects & Signal Chain

Notes

Studio recording, 2006 album 'Songlines'. Derek Trucks is known for using his vintage Gibson SG with PAF humbuckers and a cranked Fender Super Reverb for slide work in the studio. He runs almost no pedals, plugging straight into the amp for most tones. The solo section is played with the amp set to natural overdrive. No evidence of additional gain pedals or effects in the studio version; delay is not audible in the solo. All sources confirm minimal signal chain for this era and song.

Difficulty

The solo requires expert slide technique, dynamic fingerstyle playing, and expressive phrasing, making it challenging for most players despite the lack of fast runs.
