Notes

Studio recording, 1983 (Piece of Mind sessions). Both Adrian Smith and Dave Murray used Stratocasters with high-output bridge humbuckers into Marshall JCM800 heads. No evidence of significant pedal use for rhythm/riff sections; overdrive/distortion from amp. Minimal effects in riff section. Settings estimated from period-correct sources and Iron Maiden tone guides.

Difficulty

The riff requires tight, fast alternate picking and precise palm muting at a high tempo, with syncopated rhythm changes and clean note separation, making it moderately challenging for intermediate players.
