Effects & Signal Chain

Notes

Studio recording, 1991 (album: Ten). Mike McCready used his 1959 Fender Stratocaster for the solo. Sources confirm Strat and Marshall amp for the original recording, not later live rigs. Effects include wah, distortion, delay, and Uni-Vibe/Rotovibe modulation. Pickup switching during solo, but bridge pickup is most prominent for lead lines.

Difficulty

The solo is challenging due to its fast blues-rock phrasing, expressive wah and modulation use, and the need for tight timing with delay repeats. Bends, vibrato, and dynamic picking add to the technical demands.
