Notes

Studio recording, 1991. John Frusciante used his early '60s Stratocaster into a blend of a Fender Twin Reverb and a Fender Bassman for the clean riff sections of 'Give it Away'. No evidence of pedals in the clean riff studio recording; the amp was set bright and clean. Pickup selector in bridge position. No evidence of live/tour gear or later-era amps used on this recording.

Difficulty

The riff requires tight, fast funk strumming with muted notes and dynamic picking, demanding good right-hand control and rhythmic accuracy.
