Notes

Studio recording, 1978-1979. Mark Knopfler used his 1977 Fender Stratocaster as his main guitar for the Communiqué album (which includes 'Lady Writer'). The amp was a Music Man 212-HD One Thirty, as confirmed for this era. No evidence of Soldano or other amps for this studio recording. Effects chain included Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer compressor and MXR Analog Delay for slapback. No evidence of overdrive/distortion pedals for the riff section.

Difficulty

The riff requires advanced fingerstyle technique, syncopated muting, and precise dynamic control at a brisk tempo, making it challenging for most players.
