Notes

Studio recording, 1997-1998. Kirk Windstein used the ESP Eclipse II with EMG pickups into an Orange Crush Pro 120H solid state amp for the album 'Odd Fellows Rest' (which includes 'Planets Collide'). The Boss MT-2 Metal Zone pedal was used as a clean boost (distortion off, level max, EQ noon). Settings are from Kirk's own description for the riff tone. No evidence of additional pedals or amp effects in the studio for the riff section.

Difficulty

The riff is slow and based on power chords, but requires tight, consistent palm muting and heavy downpicking to maintain clarity and heaviness in a high-gain, sludgy mix.
