Effects & Signal Chain

Notes

Studio recording for 'Prison Song' (2001, Toxicity sessions). Daron Malakian's signal was split between a Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier and a Marshall Plexi 1959SLP, both running into respective cabinets and blended in the mix. No effects pedals were typically used for rhythm/riff sections; signal went through Universal Audio 1176LN compressor in the studio. No evidence of live rig or alternate guitars for this section.

Difficulty

The riff requires fast, accurate alternate picking and tight palm muting to achieve the percussive, staccato sound. The tempo and rhythmic precision, combined with the need for clean string muting under high gain, make it moderately challenging for intermediate players.
