Notes

Studio recording for 'Around the Fur' (1997). Stephen Carpenter used his ESP signature guitar with Seymour Duncan JB pickups, running into an A/DA MP-1 preamp and then into a Marshall JCM800 2203. No evidence of additional distortion pedals; fuzz character comes from amp/preamp gain. Settings estimated based on era, genre, and forum comments about 'semi-scooped mids, high bass and treble.'

Difficulty

The riff requires tight, percussive palm muting and precise rhythm under high gain, with fast chord changes and dynamic control to maintain clarity and heaviness.
