Effects & Signal Chain

Notes

Studio recording, 1975. This is the original Wish You Were Here album version, not a live or later era. Gilmour used the Black Strat with stock single-coil pickups and the Hiwatt DR103, with effects pedals and a Binson Echorec II for delay. No evidence of amp-based effects; all effects are from pedals or rack units.

Difficulty

The solo requires advanced control of vibrato and bends, subtle use of the tremolo arm for pitch modulation, and careful phrasing to interact with the delay repeats. While not technically fast, the expressive demands and touch sensitivity make it challenging for most players.
