Notes

Studio recording, 1993-1994. Kim Thayil played the riff section on a Guild S-100 with bridge pickup, through a blend of Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier and Marshall JMP 50-watt amps. Drop D tuning. No evidence of additional pedals used for the main riff in the studio; chorus pedal was used for the intro/ambient effect, not the main riff.

Difficulty

The main riff requires tight rhythm in 7/4, accurate palm muting, and dynamic picking to maintain clarity and articulation with a saturated, high-gain tone.
