Effects & Signal Chain

Notes

Studio recording, 1987. Gear confirmed for 'Surfing with the Alien' era; Peavey JSX was based on Satriani's preferred Marshall 6100 but released later. For this album, Satriani used a Marshall 6100 or similar high-gain Marshall, but sources and interviews indicate the JSX circuit is closest. Effects chain includes BOSS DS-1 Distortion, Vox wah, and digital delay. No chorus or flanger audible in solo. Settings estimated from period-correct sources and tone analysis.

Difficulty

The solo requires advanced legato technique, expressive wah pedal use, and precise control of bends and vibrato, making it challenging even for experienced players.
