Notes

Studio recording, 1972, Houses of the Holy. Jimmy Page used the 12-string neck of the Gibson EDS-1275 for the clean riff section. No evidence of pedals or outboard effects on the clean studio riff; amp reverb likely used. Live, Page sometimes used Marshall amps, but the studio version is confirmed to be the Vox UL4120.

Difficulty

The riff requires mastery of alternate tuning, intricate chord shapes, and subtle dynamic control to achieve the lush, layered clean sound. The 12-string neck and voicings add significant technical challenge.
